The United Arab Emirates has expanded its value-added tax recovery self-service kiosks for tourists from entry/exit ports to shopping malls and hotels, according to a zawya.com report. The kiosks allow tourists to process VAT refund requests in minutes from their hotels or at shopping malls. The kiosks provide additional services to tourists, which the government believes will enhance the UAE’s status as an international destination.
Planet, the company authorized by the Federal Tax Authority to operate the system, installed nine kiosks in shopping malls and hotels in the first stage of the plan. The FTA said 55 will be installed by year’s end. Applicants can scan their boarding passes to verify they will exit the country in 24 hours, along with their passports or identity cards.
