133rd Annual Exhibition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters
The Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition is a must-visit event for art lovers interested in painted portraits. Now in its 133rd year, the exhibition is held at the prestigious Mall Galleries on London’s The Mall, showcasing a collection of portraits selected by world-renowned professional portrait painters.
President of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Anthony Connolly, describes the exhibition as a space for both established and emerging talent to showcase their work, with a mix of familiar and new artists presenting their portraits. The exhibition features a diverse range of stylistic and intellectual approaches, making it one of the world’s greatest forums for portraiture.
With over 230 painted portraits on display, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to purchase works of art that may become future masterpieces. The Society also offers a Portrait Commission service, allowing visitors to commission their own portraits from exhibiting artists.
The Annual Exhibition, first held in 1891, is the largest celebration of contemporary portrait painting in Europe. It features prizes and awards such as The William Lock Portrait Prize, The Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture, and The RP Prize for the Best Small Portrait. Winners of these awards will be announced on Thursday 16th May 2024, during the exhibition.
The 133rd Annual Exhibition will run from Thursday 9th May to Saturday 18th May at Mall Galleries, with the option to view and purchase artwork online. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience some of the best painted portraits in Europe and potentially acquire a portrait masterpiece of the future.
