2024 Program Revealed for the Dazzling Parrtjima Light Festival in Alice Springs
The Northern Territory is gearing up for an extraordinary event in 2024 with the return of Parrtjima – A Festival in Light from April 12-21. This free light and art spectacular, taking place in Alice Springs (Mparntwe), promises to be a must-see celebration of First Nations culture.
Parrtjima, which means ‘lighting up’ in Arrernte, showcases innovative art installations and large-scale projections that share timeless stories of the world’s oldest continuous culture. The theme for the festival’s ninth iteration is ‘Interconnectedness’, highlighting the interconnected nature of Indigenous culture and its deep connection to the land and water.
The program for 2024 is curated by a new event team led by leading creative experience design studio Grumpy Sailor and experiential events agency We Are Gather. Highlights of the festival include the Ranges Light Show illuminating the ancient MacDonnell Ranges and the interactive Grounded installation at Alice Springs Desert Park.
New attractions for 2024 include Arelhe Urrperle, a six-metre-tall puppet sharing Indigenous language and stories, and a three-night marketplace featuring local Aboriginal businesses. The event will also feature performances by Australian music stars Troy Cassar-Daley and Shellie Morris, as well as other notable musicians and guest speakers.
