“26 Statewide Preservation Awards Presented in Athens on April 24”
The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation recently honored 26 projects for their outstanding efforts in preservation during the 47th annual Preservation Awards ceremony in Athens, Georgia.
Among the recipients was Security Federal Bank in Augusta, which received the prestigious Marguerite Williams Award for Excellence in Rehabilitation. The historic bank building, originally constructed in 1924 as the uptown branch of the Old Georgia Railroad Bank, underwent a sensitive rehabilitation process. By utilizing tax credits, the building was converted back to its original use, contributing to the revitalization of the city’s downtown economy and serving as a reminder of its economic resilience.
The award highlights the positive impact that preservation projects can have on communities, not only by restoring historic buildings but also by boosting local economies and preserving cultural heritage. Security Federal Bank’s recognition serves as a testament to the importance of preserving our past while building a sustainable future.
