Lesieli Pomale
In the context of today’s challenges, the trajectories of individuals juggling parenthood, professional commitments, and educational aspirations remain critical to understanding our society. Lesieli Pomale, a 31-year-old Los Medanos College (LMC) student and dedicated parent, exemplifies this multifaceted journey, demonstrating the interplay between personal devotion and academic ambition.
Pomale chose Los Medanos College as her stepping stone toward higher education due, in part, to its reputation for nurturing a supportive community for student-parents. “I chose Los Medanos College because it offers a supportive environment for student parents like me,” she explained. The community aspect of LMC proved vital in enabling her to harmonize her obligations as a mother with her academic pursuits. Programs designed specifically for non-traditional students, such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOPS) and the Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE), have been instrumental in Pomale’s educational journey, providing essential resources and emotional support that kept her motivated and inspired.
As a testament to her hard work, Pomale is set to graduate this spring with associate degrees for transfer in behavioral science and social science. Her academic aspirations do not stop there; she plans to further her education at the University of Massachusetts Global, aiming for both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology. Ultimately, Pomale has her sights set on obtaining a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, where she intends to focus on trauma and family therapy, particularly within underserved communities.
Reflecting on her time at LMC, Pomale highlighted valuable lessons learned throughout her academic journey. “Perseverance is everything. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth,” she stated, noting that her experiences have taught her that she is capable of more than she ever believed possible.
Pomale’s story illustrates the profound impact that educational institutions can have on individuals from diverse backgrounds. It emphasizes not only the resilience required to pursue higher education but also the importance of community support for student-parents striving to balance multifaceted roles in their lives. As Pomale embarks on the next chapter of her educational journey, her determination and insights serve as an inspiration for many, showcasing the transformative power of perseverance and education.
This narrative is a powerful reminder of the critical role that educational programs and supportive environments play in equipping individuals to achieve their academic and personal goals while navigating life’s many complexities.
