Celebrating Teen Creativity with Exclusive Tablet Covers

Best Buy and Microsoft Launch Limited-Edition Type Covers to Support Youth Empowerment Initiatives
In an innovative partnership, Best Buy and Microsoft have unveiled a limited-edition version of the Microsoft Surface 13” Keyboard, commonly known as the Type Cover. This exclusive product, adorned with unique artwork created by participants of the Best Buy Teen Tech Center, is available solely through the Best Buy app. This initiative is part of the Microsoft Type Cover for a Cause program, which engages youth by challenging them to conceptualize designs that reflect their personal narratives and aspirations for a sustainable future. A portion of the proceeds from each Type Cover sold will be donated to the Best Buy Foundation, which supports various youth educational initiatives.
Olivia Jefferson, Vice President of Social Impact at Best Buy, emphasized the significance of such collaborations, stating, “Partners like Microsoft are instrumental in providing opportunities that help young people learn skills they can use to chart their own path. Together, we can make an even bigger impact by offering real-world experiences that equip young people with the tools to pursue their dreams now and in the future.”
To facilitate this collaboration, the Teen Tech Center members were paired with Microsoft employee mentors, engaging in virtual workshops over a two-month period. This innovative program empowered the teens to explore various digital design skills while fostering connections with Microsoft leadership, thus opening avenues for them to learn more about potential career paths in the technology sector. “It really has been incredible bringing this program to life with our Best Buy Foundation partner,” said Augustus Willman, Program Manager at Microsoft Type Cover for a Cause. He added that the initiative is aimed at igniting youth enthusiasm for technology by equipping them with vital knowledge and skills.
In addition to this initiative, Best Buy and Microsoft have previously collaborated in April 2024 during Earth Month, focusing on sustainability efforts by turning electronic waste into fashionable items. Furthermore, earlier this month, Best Buy announced the relaunch of its third-party marketplace, indicating a growing trend towards environmental responsibility and enhanced corporate social responsibility initiatives within the retail sector.
