Naomi Beckwith Named Winner of 2024 David C. Driskell Prize

The prestigious David C. Driskell Prize, established in 2005 to recognize those who advance research on African American artists and scholars, has selected its 19th winner. Naomi Beckwith, the deputy director and Jennifer and David Stockman chief curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and Museum, has been awarded the ,000 prize.

With a career spanning over 50 years, Beckwith has curated numerous exhibitions that delve into the impact of Black identity and culture on contemporary artists. Prior to her role at the Guggenheim, she held positions at esteemed institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. Beckwith will be recognized at the upcoming Driskell Prize Gala scheduled for April 26th, 2024.

The recognition of Beckwith’s contributions to the arts world aligns with the mission of the Driskell Prize to honor those who support artistic innovation and elevate the work of African American creatives.
