Sabah Government Partners with European Wellness to Promote State as Leading Medical Wellness Tourism and Biotech Hub

European Wellness, a prominent name in health and wellness, has unveiled a significant partnership with the Sabah state government in Malaysia. The collaboration, announced on March 14, 2024, aims to elevate Sabah as a top destination for medical wellness tourism globally.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has expressed his full support for the initiative led by esteemed stem cell scientist Professor Dato’ Seri Dr. Mike Chan. Professor Mike Chan has committed a groundbreaking investment of US million (RM378.8 million) to establish a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research facility at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park. This move, backed by the Chief Minister, represents a major step forward in enhancing Sabah’s healthcare, medical wellness, and tourism sectors.

Professor Mike Chan and his Sabahan wife, Professor Dato’ Sri Dr. Michelle Wong, have shared their vision to expand operations in Sabah, focusing on the ASEAN and BIMP-Eaga markets. By emphasizing medical wellness and education tourism, this partnership aims to leverage Sabah’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and European Wellness’s expertise to offer a comprehensive healthcare experience to visitors.

In light of the global health challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, this collaboration signifies a significant moment in Sabah’s journey towards economic recovery and healthcare excellence. The Chief Minister has expressed his appreciation to Professor Mike Chan for his dedication to enhancing Sabah’s biomedical capabilities.
