Professor Michael V. McConnell, MD, MSEE, appointed as Chief Health Officer by Toku
Toku, a company specializing in AI-powered tools for converting routine eye exams into comprehensive health screenings, has appointed Professor Michael V. McConnell, MD, MSEE, as its Chief Health Officer. McConnell, formerly the Director of Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and Preventive Cardiology at Stanford University and Head of Cardiovascular Health Innovations at Google, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
McConnell, a founding member of the American Heart Association’s Health Tech Advisory Group and author of “Fight Heart Disease Like Cancer,” is excited to join Toku and advance early detection and prevention of major health conditions using imaging and AI technology. Toku’s products, including BioAge and CLAiR, use AI to analyze biometric markers in the retina, with the latter receiving Breakthrough Device designation from the FDA.
Toku CEO, Associate Professor Ehsan Vaghefi, emphasized McConnell’s expertise in AI and business skills as key factors in his appointment. Vaghefi praised McConnell’s work at Stanford and Google, citing his ability to combine clinical and research expertise with successful business experience. Toku’s Series A financing was co-led by National Vision, Inc. and Topcon Healthcare, showcasing strong support for the company’s innovative approach to preventative health through AI and noninvasive imaging technologies.
