‘Bruce Cockburn Set to Enter Mariposa Hall of Fame’

The Mariposa Folk Foundation is set to honor Canadian artist Bruce Cockburn by inducting him into its Hall of Fame at this year’s festival, taking place from July 5 to 7 at Tudhope Park in Orillia.

Bruce Cockburn, who first performed at the festival in 1968 and has graced the stage eight times since, will make his ninth appearance this July. Festival president Pam Carter expressed her admiration for Cockburn, stating, “Bruce Cockburn is a courageous and inspiring Canadian artist. We’re honored to induct him into the Mariposa Hall of Fame.”

In response to the news, Cockburn humbly expressed his appreciation, saying, “Mariposa has been an important part of me being able to share my songs with people.” He fondly recalled his unexpected mainstage debut at Mariposa, where he filled in for Neil Young and captivated the audience with his music.

Despite his numerous appearances at Mariposa and the impact of his songs on the festival’s audience, Cockburn remains modest about the Hall of Fame induction. He admitted, “I look forward to being at the festival more than receiving this honor. It is an honor, and I’m pleased about it.”

A special tribute to Bruce Cockburn will be featured on the evening of Sunday, July 7 at Mariposa’s Gordon Lightfoot Mainstage to celebrate his induction into the Hall of Fame. Festival attendees can look forward to a memorable evening filled with live and pre-recorded performances dedicated to the acclaimed artist.

The three-day Mariposa Folk Festival will showcase over ten stages of folk-roots music, as well as storytelling, dance, and craft presentations. Tickets for all categories are currently available for purchase, with free admission for kids 12 and under and special pricing for youth and young adults.
