Nationwide Children’s Hospital Moves Forward with New Outpatient Medical Center in New Albany, Ohio

Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a prominent pediatric healthcare institution based in Columbus, Ohio, has recently secured approval from the New Albany Planning Commission to advance plans for a state-of-the-art outpatient medical center. Envisioned as a comprehensive healthcare facility, the project will occupy a significant 170,000-square-foot space within a generous 25-acre parcel donated by the family of billionaire Les Wexner.

Scheduled to open its doors in 2027, this ambitious four-story center is designed to enhance the availability of pediatric healthcare services within the community. According to a report by The Columbus Dispatch, the new medical center will offer a wide range of services, including urgent care, diagnostic testing, specialty clinics, and various therapeutic options such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. This diversified service model aims to address the growing healthcare needs of families in the New Albany area and beyond, providing a much-needed resource for young patients.

The facility is set to become an integral part of Nationwide Children’s “Close to Home” network, which comprises 26 community-based outpatient sites located throughout Ohio. These centers are specifically designed to deliver pediatric care closer to patients, alleviating the necessity for families to travel to the main hospital campus in Columbus for routine care and specialized treatment. The center’s offerings will not only streamline access to urgent medical services but will also provide vital support through therapy and specialty clinics, significantly enhancing local healthcare infrastructure.

In addition to the patient care services, the New Albany project incorporates a 16,000-square-foot utility plant, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and self-sufficiency in healthcare operations. Furthermore, it will feature nearly 9 acres of parkland and open space, contributing positively to the community’s green spaces and promoting health and wellness beyond medical services. A 496-space parking lot is also included in the plans, ensuring adequate access for families visiting the center.

As Nationwide Children’s Hospital continues to expand its reach and accessibility, this new outpatient medical center in New Albany stands as a testament to its commitment to improving pediatric healthcare in Ohio. With the combination of advanced facilities and a focus on community-oriented care, the project reflects a progressive approach to healthcare, setting a standard for similar initiatives across the nation.
