‘Arbor Day celebration set for Friday, April 26 in Kenosha County’

Celebrate Arbor Day at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol this Friday! The countywide celebration will kick off at 5 p.m. with a tree arts exhibit featuring works by Kenosha County 4-H members. Then, at 6 p.m., there will be an inaugural ceremony for the new automated weather station operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison on the County Center grounds.

Join in the festivities and witness a tree-planting ceremony led by Extension Kenosha County Horticulture Educator Vijai Pandian at 6:15 p.m. County officials will be on hand to distribute tree saplings for attendees to take home and plant.

Kenosha County Executive Samantha Kerkman emphasized the importance of Arbor Day, stating, “Arbor Day is a time to celebrate the beautiful trees that surround us and pass that blessing onto future generations by planting new seeds in the ground.”

Supervisor Guida Brown, chair of the County Board’s Planning, Development, and Extension Education Committee, encouraged the community to participate in the celebration and learn more about Kenosha County’s diverse native tree landscape and the educational arboretum on the County Center grounds.

The newly installed weather station is part of UW-Madison’s Wisconet network and provides real-time data on weather conditions in the area. This data, updated every 15 minutes, is available to the public online.
