Celebrating ‘Good’ Rating: Old Bank Academy’s Successful Four-Year Turnaround in Huddersfield

Old Bank Academy in Mirfield has reasons to celebrate as Ofsted inspectors have awarded them a ‘Good’ rating. This achievement comes after a significant transformation since the school’s ‘Inadequate’ rating back in 2019 when it was known as Old Bank Junior, Infant and Nursery School. The school became an academy in 2020 and joined the Impact Education Multi Academy Trust based in Huddersfield.

The recent inspection report commended the “transformational work” that has been implemented, highlighting new leadership that has created a highly positive culture within the school. Ofsted inspectors praised the quality of education, behavior, leadership, and early years provision, all of which were judged to be good.

Headteacher Judy Wood expressed her delight with the Ofsted rating, attributing it to the hard work and rapid progress made over the past four years. The school community, including pupils, staff, parents, governors, and trustees, was acknowledged for their support and dedication to the academy.

Inspectors specifically commended the student behavior, communication, relationships, and the ambitious curriculum set forth by the academy. Chair of governors David Fann expressed pride in the academy community’s hard work that led to the well-deserved grading, emphasizing the ongoing goal of reaching ‘outstanding’ status.

Mick Kay, CEO of Impact Education Multi Academy Trust, praised the significant improvement seen at Old Bank Academy, noting the nurturing and inclusive environment provided to the pupils. The trust’s focus is now on maintaining and further improving the standards for all pupils, ensuring they leave as well-rounded individuals.

Impact Education Multi Academy Trust, which oversees eight academies including Newsome Academy and Hill View Academy, with two more schools set to join, aims to continue fostering success and growth for all students.
