“Devoted fan’s 3D-printed Coldplay hat becomes a success following Glastonbury line-up reveal”
A dedicated Glastonbury superfan, Alex McGuire, expressed his delight at seeing rock band Coldplay included in the lineup for the 2024 edition of the festival. McGuire, who will be attending his 17th year at the Worthy Farm festival in Somerset this summer, has made a tradition of designing hats inspired by the headline acts. This year, his Coldplay-themed hat features a 3D-printed replica of the Pyramid Stage, Lego characters resembling the four band members, a miniature piano, LED lights, and the potential addition of a small smoke machine.
After months of preparation for his Coldplay-themed hat, McGuire was thrilled to learn that Coldplay would be headlining the festival alongside Dua Lipa, Shania Twain, and Sza. McGuire’s friend helped 3D print the replica Pyramid Stage for the hat, anticipating the band’s inclusion in the lineup. The themed hats McGuire creates typically take a couple of hundred hours to complete, with McGuire working on gathering materials and gradually adding details leading up to the festival.
McGuire, a shop assistant at Asda, is known for his elaborate festival hats, with last year’s creation being a Sir Elton John-themed cap. This year’s hat is set to include a small smoke machine, battery-powered LED lights, wristbands from previous festivals, and other intricate details. McGuire expressed his love for the festival atmosphere and the diverse music lineup, emphasizing the camaraderie and spirit of Glastonbury.
In addition to looking forward to Coldplay, McGuire mentioned his excitement for Dua Lipa and Shania Twain’s performances. He praised Chris Martin as a Glastonbury icon and anticipated energetic sets from both Dua Lipa and Shania Twain. McGuire’s creativity and passion for Glastonbury are evident in the unique hats he designs for each festival, showcasing his dedication to the event’s vibrant and inclusive musical experience.
