Enhanced Partnership in Water, Energy, and Sanitation Between UAE and Mauritius
The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities of Mauritius have come together to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in the crucial fields of water, energy, and sanitation.
In a virtual signing ceremony, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, and Georges Pierre Lesjongard, Minister of Energy and Public Utilities of the Republic of Mauritius, solidified the partnership in the presence of high-level officials from both countries.
The areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include energy, renewable energy, hydrogen and derivatives, energy efficiency, liquefied natural gas, water, water efficiency, desalination, digital technology applications, wastewater, and sanitation. This agreement will facilitate the exchange of experiences and information, promote joint research and development, encourage project implementation through various models, and foster investment in relevant areas.
Al Mazrouei emphasized the significance of the MoU in strengthening the longstanding relations between the UAE and Mauritius, highlighting the shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. He emphasized the UAE’s collaborative approach in meeting various energy and water strategies and contributing to net zero emissions by 2050.
Lesjongard expressed gratitude for the nations’ longstanding collaboration and stressed the importance of the MoU in helping Mauritius achieve its climate goals and enhance resilience against the effects of climate change.
This strategic partnership between the UAE and Mauritius is a testament to effective collaboration and aims to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals related to clean water, affordable and clean energy, and climate action. The signing of this MoU marks a significant milestone in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in various sectors, further solidifying their relationship for mutual benefit and global environmental sustainability.
