Exciting Updates: Clean School Buses, Expanded Environmental Justice Council, Clean Energy Rebates, and More!

The Environmental Protection Agency has recently granted 5 million to more than 530 school districts across 47 states, D.C., and various tribal and U.S. territories. This funding is intended for the purchase of 3,400 clean school buses as part of the EPA’s Clean School Bus Rebate Program, which has already distributed close to billion to replace diesel school buses.

A significant portion of this round of funding, approximately two thirds, will be allocated to buying clean school buses in low-income, rural, and tribal communities, aligning with President Biden’s Justice40 initiative. These new buses, with 92% of them being electric, will serve as replacements for older, polluting diesel models, thereby improving air quality and creating a healthier environment for students who utilize school bus transportation.

The move towards cleaner school buses is a crucial step towards enhancing public health and addressing environmental concerns. It is also a stride towards achieving the administration’s goal of promoting environmental justice and sustainability.

In another development, the Biden-Harris administration has decided to expand the Environmental Justice Advisory Council, indicating a strong commitment towards promoting environmental justice and fostering sustainable practices.
