Lindex wins in court – a clear victory for women’s needs

Driving change for women is a central part of Lindex’s work. A clear ruling has now been issued by the Swedish Patent and Market Court in the case concerning Lindex’s communication around period panties, where the company Essity has been the opposing part. The court ruled in favor of Lindex on all essential points and also ordered Essity to pay Lindex’s legal costs, a clear message that strengthens Lindex’s continued efforts to support women’s needs and rights.
‘The court has ruled in our favour on all essential matters, an important decision that strengthens our continued efforts to challenge norms and improve women’s everyday lives. At Lindex, we recognise that women’s bodies and needs have not always been taken seriously. We see it as our responsibility to contribute to change, to normalise bodily functions such as menstruation and light urinary leakage, and to empower women to manage their daily lives on their own terms,’ says Ebba Lo, Innovation and Business Manager, Female Engineering at Lindex.
This commitment, together with Lindex’s long-standing experience in developing underwear, that laid the foundation for the launch of the fashion company’s brand Female Engineering in 2022, with the purpose of creating safe, innovative, and relevant products for all phases of women’s lives.
Lindex’s period panties are primarily designed for menstruation but can also be used for other bodily fluids, including light urinary leakage. This is now also confirmed by the Swedish Patent and Market Court, which rules in favour of Lindex, an important statement, and furthermore orders Essity to cover Lindex’s legal costs.
‘This ruling is more than a legal success, it confirms our right to communicate openly about women’s real needs without being silenced or restricted. It is a step toward breaking taboos around bodily functions like menstruation and urinary leakage, and it validates the impact of our work to drive change for women. It gives us continued strength to develop safe, innovative, and relevant products based on the real needs of our customers,’ says Ebba Lo.
