TGH Muma Children’s Hospital Opens New Family Care Center at ZooTampa
Tampa General Hospital’s Muma Children’s Hospital recently unveiled a new family care center at ZooTampa, providing a safe and comfortable space for new parents to care for their infants while enjoying a day at the zoo. The initiative aims to support the health and well-being of families in the community beyond the hospital walls.
John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, emphasized the importance of offering world-class care in various community spaces where individuals live, work, and play. The partnership with ZooTampa allows families to explore nature and wildlife while having access to a dedicated area to attend to their young children.
Melissa Golombek, vice president of Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH, highlighted the natural synergy between health and wellness promotion and family-friendly environments like ZooTampa. The newly inaugurated family care center, named The Lil’ Joey Family Stop, offers privacy and convenience for mothers to breastfeed or pump, with amenities like comfortable seating, power outlets, and a bottle warmer.
Tiffany Burns, senior director of Animal Programs at ZooTampa, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with Muma Children’s Hospital at TGH, emphasizing the shared commitment to the health and wellness of Tampa Bay families. The family care center is just one of the joint efforts between Tampa General and ZooTampa to promote health and fitness, including the development of a new walking trail and hosting of a Kids Fun Run.
The family care center is open daily during Zoo hours, providing a welcoming environment for parents to tend to their children while enjoying all that ZooTampa has to offer. With this initiative, Tampa General Hospital and ZooTampa continue to work together to support the health and well-being of the community in unique and innovative ways.
