New School-Based Clinics Open in Southeast Houston

New Clinics Enhance Healthcare Access for Families in Southeast Houston
Southeast Houston families can now benefit from improved healthcare accessibility with the recent inauguration of two school-based health clinics at YES Prep Hobby Elementary and YES Prep Hobby Secondary. Located respectively at 7660 Hansen Rd. and 8787 Tallyho Rd., these clinics are the result of a collaborative effort between YES Prep Public Schools and Legacy Community Health. This partnership aims to provide essential pediatric and behavioral health services directly on school campuses, effectively addressing transportation barriers that often hinder access to healthcare.
The newly established clinics represent the 20th and 21st joint health service sites created by YES Prep and Legacy Community Health, fortifying their commitment to student wellness. With this recent addition, the total number of school-based clinics operated by Legacy Community Health in the Greater Houston and Galena Park regions has risen to 39. Importantly, these clinics are accessible to all YES Prep students, their siblings, and children of YES Prep employees, thus fostering a comprehensive approach to healthcare that transcends individual campuses. Furthermore, clinic services are provided regardless of patients’ insurance status or their ability to pay, reinforcing the community-centric philosophy of both organizations.
The establishment of these clinics is a strategic move that underscores YES Prep’s dedication to supporting students’ holistic well-being. By facilitating on-campus healthcare, the collaboration with Legacy Community Health ensures that families can easily access the necessary medical support, which is fundamental to student success. This initiative is part of a broader trend in Houston and other urban areas, where school-based health programs are gaining traction. Such programs aim to eliminate barriers to healthcare while simultaneously promoting academic achievement.
School-based health clinics offer a myriad of benefits, including enhanced student attendance and improved academic performance, as students are less likely to miss school due to health-related issues. By integrating healthcare services within educational settings, schools can foster an environment conducive to both learning and personal development. As the healthcare landscape evolves, initiatives like those launched by YES Prep and Legacy Community Health set a benchmark for innovative, community-driven solutions to public health challenges. This collaboration is a vital step toward ensuring that every child in the region has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and healthy environment.
