Philadelphia Chabad Is Expanding and It’s Time to Shape Its Future

Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia: A Flourishing Center for Jewish Education Amid Community Growth

The Greater Philadelphia area has emerged as one of the fastest-growing hubs for Chabad communities in the United States, marked by a significant influx of families seeking a vibrant Jewish life beyond traditional centers like Crown Heights. Central to this burgeoning community is Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia, an educational institution that has diligently served and nurtured the local Jewish population for over two decades. As the school marks this milestone, it is poised to enhance its impact through the acquisition of a permanent facility.

Currently, the Greater Philadelphia area houses over 40 Shluchim (emissaries) and more than 100 Anash families, highlighting a commitment to religious and cultural continuity. The community boasts several kosher restaurants, actively congregating minyanim, and expanding support systems—indicative of a robust and supportive Jewish infrastructure.

Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia has been at the forefront of community life, offering tailored education grounded in the principles of Chassidus. For 22 years, the Cheder has served as an educational sanctuary, providing a warm, mission-driven environment for more than 270 children from preschool through eighth grade. Families are drawn from distances of up to an hour and a half to ensure their children experience a unique blend of academic rigor and spiritual enrichment.

What began as a modest educational initiative in the basement of a local Shliach’s home has blossomed into a well-regarded institution known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Cheder Chabad emphasizes nurturing the “whole child” approach, aiming to foster the next generation of the Rebbe’s Chassidim through experiential learning and strong values.

The recent announcement that Cheder Chabad has located a permanent home for its preschool and girls’ division marks a significant milestone in the school’s growth trajectory. This facility not only meets the educational needs of Cheder’s expanding student body but also aligns with the community’s aspirations for a dedicated space that reflects the dignity and care that every student deserves.

As part of this transitional phase, Cheder Chabad of Philadelphia has launched its inaugural Charidy campaign, aptly titled “Our Home. Our Future.” This fundraising initiative aims to secure 0,000 in a 36-hour window, targeting the purchase of the new building crucial for the next steps in community building and educational development. The Cheridy campaign encapsulates more than mere fundraising; it signifies a collective commitment to build a sustainable future for Jewish education in Philadelphia.

This period of expansion offers a profound opportunity for stakeholders—parents, alumni, and community members—to play an active role in shaping the future of Chabad in Philadelphia. The campaign serves as an invitation to be part of this vital journey, ensuring that Cheder Chabad can continue its mission to provide a nurturing environment for future generations.
