‘Rebalancing of XeSS upscaling settings in version 1.3’
Intel has rolled out the latest version of its XeSS upscaler, version 1.3, with significant improvements over its predecessor. The updated version brings changes to resolution scaling for the upscaling profiles and introduces new profiles.
The new profiles offer better performance by adjusting the resolution scaling rather than focusing solely on improving XeSS performance. For instance, the Ultra Quality profile now features a resolution scaling of 1.5x, up from 1.3x, while the Quality profile has been bumped up from 1.5x to 1.7x. The balanced profiles have also seen an increase in upscaling ratio, from 1.7x to 2.0x, and Performance has been boosted from 2.0x to 2.3x. Additionally, Intel has introduced the Ultra Quality Plus profile with a 1.3x resolution scaling and Ultra Performance with a 3.0x resolution scaling.
The new AI model integrated into XeSS 1.3 enhances its capabilities, allowing for more visually complex features, superior picture reconstruction, anti-aliasing, ghosting reduction, and temporal stability enhancement. In addition, Intel has added two new profiles, Ultra Performance and Ultra Quality Plus, and introduced Native Anti-Aliasing as a rival to Nvidia DLAA.
Intel has conducted comparisons between XeSS 1.2 and 1.3, though the modifications to each profile may impact the relevance of these comparisons to gamers. Once XeSS is available, gamers can compare the performance and quality of both versions.
With the release of the software development kit this week, developers can now integrate XeSS 1.3 into their applications. Intel continues to make strides in its GPU segment, with significant performance improvements and the ongoing development of features like XeSS. The company’s progress in this area sets the stage for potential advancements in XeSS as Intel gears up to launch its 2nd Gen Arc graphics cards later this year.
