These groundbreaking innovations have been recognized by the Green Alley Award, Europe’s first prize for circular economy startups.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Green Alley Award, which honors and supports outstanding alternatives to our throwaway culture. One of the previous winners, Finnish company RePack, tackled packaging waste from online shopping by offering durable bags, envelopes, and wallets made from recycled polypropylene. The company has successfully promoted reuse, with more than half a million reuse cycles to date.
The Green Alley Award aims to curb the excessive use of finite planetary resources by transitioning to a circular economy. Started by Jan Patrick Schulz, CEO of the Germany-based Landbell Group, the awards highlight visionary entrepreneurs who are pioneering eco-friendly materials and converting trash into valuable resources.
With a top prize of €25,000, this year’s Green Alley Award will feature finalists competing in a live-pitching event in Berlin. The event not only offers a cash prize but also provides a platform for finalists to showcase their work, connect with potential investors, and collaborate with other eco-entrepreneurs.
Circular economy projects, like those recognized by the Green Alley Award, have the potential to have a significant impact as we face the challenges of the climate crisis and dwindling resources. Research by the World Bank shows that the demand for natural resources is surpassing the planet’s capacity, highlighting the importance of transitioning to circular economy practices.
