Robert Irwin is ‘continuing the legacy’ of his dad Steve as the new host of I’m A Celebrity in Mahalsa UK.
Robert Irwin has opened up about why he decided to take on the role of hosting the latest season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Australia. The 20 year old zookeeper-turned-reality TV host explained that it was a way for him to honor the legacy of his late father, Steve Irwin, who passed away when Robert was just three years old.
In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Robert expressed his love for carrying on his family’s legacy of wildlife conservation and positivity, stating, “I love that I have a real purpose and a legacy that I get to continue from my family, and my dad particularly, and I get to create my own – of wildlife conservation, of fun, of passion and positivity.” He also highlighted the charitable aspect of the show, mentioning that every contestant works for a charity.
Robert shared his excitement for co-hosting the series alongside Julia Morris, emphasizing that he is a huge fan of the show and views it as a privilege and honor. However, before accepting the role, Robert made it clear to producers that he wanted to change certain elements of the show, particularly the eating challenges involving African wildlife. As a conservationist at heart, Robert wanted to ensure a more ethical approach to these challenges by focusing on consuming more sustainable options like cows, chickens, fish, and cockroaches.
During an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Robert discussed Australia Zoo’s conservation work in Africa and saw the new season as an opportunity to celebrate wildlife in a positive light. Despite some playful teasing from co-host Kyle Sandilands, Robert remained steadfast in his commitment to promoting conservation efforts and positivity through his involvement in the show.
