Volvo Gives XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge Electric Crossovers New Names
Volvo Introduces New EX40 and EC40 Designations for Electric Crossovers
Volvo has recently rebranded its XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge electric crossovers, giving them new identities as the EX40 and EC40 models. These changes are in line with the brand’s upcoming EX30, EX90, and EM90 electric models set to hit the market later this year. The original XC40 name will still be used for internal combustion-powered versions of the vehicle.
These updates are part of Volvo’s efforts to enhance customer transparency and support its goal of transitioning into a fully electric car manufacturer by 2030. By streamlining the naming convention for its electric and hybrid vehicles, Volvo aims to make it easier for consumers to differentiate between fully electric and hybrid models.
According to Björn Annwall, chief commercial officer and deputy CEO of Volvo, the alignment of the brand’s electric models will simplify the decision-making process for customers as Volvo continues to expand its electric vehicle lineup.
In addition to the new names, the EX40 and EC40 models will receive a Performance software pack for twin motor variants. This upgrade provides an extra 34hp for improved acceleration, customized pedal mapping for more responsive throttle inputs, and a ‘Performance’ drive mode with a total power output of 436hp.
The Performance software pack can be added to new car orders as an optional upgrade or installed via over-the-air updates for existing 2024 C40 and XC40 Recharge owners.
Volvo is also enhancing the B5 mild-hybrid petrol variants of the XC60 and XC90 models with a more efficient engine combustion cycle. This optimization is expected to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel economy by up to 4% for the XC60 and 2% for the XC90.
Furthermore, the EX40, EC40, and XC40 models will be available in a Black Edition variant, featuring Onyx Black paint, high-gloss black badging, 20-inch black alloy wheels, and a choice of sleek charcoal interiors.
Customers can expect the first deliveries of the new EX40 and EC40 models in late Q2 of 2024.
