Extension of Contract for Gerard Schwarz at Music Festival in the East

Renowned conductor Gerard Schwarz has decided to extend his contract as Music Director of the Eastern Music Festival (EMF) until the end of the festival’s 2026 season. Schwarz has been a part of EMF since 2005, starting as a Music Advisor before becoming Principal Conductor in 2006.

Established in 1961, the Eastern Music Festival attracts hundreds of young musicians each summer. The festival also features guest artists, performances, and community programs. Under Schwarz’s leadership, new initiatives such as the Conducting Scholars Institute and the Euphonium-Tuba Institute have been introduced.

In addition to his role at EMF, Schwarz serves as music director for the All-Star Orchestra, Palm Beach Symphony, and Mozart Orchestra of New York. He holds prestigious titles such as Conductor Laureate of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Emeritus of the Mostly Mozart Festival. Schwarz has conducted and recorded with renowned orchestras worldwide and has been featured on over 350 albums.

Expressing his joy in continuing his work with EMF, Schwarz stated, “It is a great pleasure and honor to continue making music in my summer musical home through 2026. Working with such talented musicians, faculty, and students, along with the support of a dedicated staff and board, is truly special.” EMF board chair Melanie Tuttle also expressed excitement about the continued collaboration with Schwarz, praising his contributions to the festival’s success.
