‘Chengdu chosen as venue for MSI event in 2024’
Riot Games has revealed that the upcoming League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will take place in Chengdu, China. MSI Chengdu 2024 is scheduled to be held at the Chengdu Financial City Performing Arts Centre from May 1st to 9th.
Hosting the MSI in China is not a new phenomenon, as the country has previously hosted the event three times. However, this will be the first time that Chengdu will be the host city for the prestigious tournament.
Teams participating in the event will have the opportunity to compete in front of live fans at every stage, a rarity in the world of esports. Riot Games has also introduced significant format changes for this year’s MSI, with the winning team now earning a guaranteed spot at Worlds along with an additional seed for their region. The runner-up region will also secure an extra seed at Worlds.
Compared to last year’s MSI in London, this year’s event will feature 12 teams instead of 13. The teams will consist of two representatives from each of the LPL, LCK, LCS, and LEC leagues, while one team each from the LLA, CBLOL, PCS, and VCS will also compete.
The tournament format will see the second seeds from the top leagues competing in double-elimination brackets, with the winners advancing to the next stage. Tickets for the event will go on sale on April 2nd.
Overall, the MSI Chengdu 2024 promises to be an exciting and competitive event in the world of League of Legends esports.
