Collaboration between Norfolk & Norwich Festival and Norwich Theatre for 2024 Event
Norfolk & Norwich Festival and Norwich Theatre are teaming up to present an exciting program at this year’s Norfolk & Norwich Festival. The festival, known for its celebration of dance and physical theatre, will feature a curated selection of performances from both organizations.
One of the highlights of the festival is the UK premiere of ‘Mosh’ by Irish dance artist Rachel Ní Bhraonáin. This unique performance combines live music, real interviews, dance, and text to explore the culture and characters of the mosh-pit over three nights at Epic.
Another standout performance is ‘An Accident / a Life’ at Norwich Theatre Royal, a collaboration between choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and dancer Marc Brew. The piece delves into life-changing moments, inspired by Marc’s transformation from ballet dancer to paraplegic after a car accident.
For younger audiences, Greek dance artist Xenia Aidonopoulou presents ‘Skydiver’ at the Garage, a multi-sensory dance experience that takes families on a journey through fluffy clouds filled with birds and butterflies.
‘Tess’ at Norwich Theatre, adapted from Thomas Hardy’s classic tale ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’, is a captivating blend of circus and physical theatre brought to life by Ockham’s Razor. The production explores the life, loves, and landscapes of Hardy’s heroine in a thrilling and emotional performance.
Additionally, the festival will showcase ‘Fenland Elegy’, a short film featuring Krump dance shot at sunset in the Fens of East Anglia, highlighting the festival’s community engagement efforts.
Norfolk & Norwich Festival is one of the largest multi-artform festivals in the country, celebrating performance, music, literature, and visual arts each May. Norwich Theatre has been expanding its dance offerings through Norwich Moves, a series that explores movement-based storytelling.
Both organizations are excited to present this diverse and compelling program, showcasing the power of dance and movement to tell captivating stories. Audience members can look forward to a range of performances that push boundaries and inspire through movement and emotion.
