Intergenerational Sages & Seekers Program Resumes at Wasatch County Library

Sages & Seekers Program Aims to Foster Intergenerational Connections

The Sages & Seekers initiative is set to launch an engaging eight-week program designed to forge connections between senior citizens aged 60 and older, referred to as “Sages,” and teenagers within the age bracket of 13 to 18, labeled as “Seekers.” This unique collaboration, which is part of a broader effort to strengthen community ties, is sponsored by the Wasatch County Library in partnership with the Park City-based Live Like Sam Foundation—a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental health education and equipping youth with essential life skills.

The curriculum of Sages & Seekers is centered around the rich practice of storytelling. Participants are encouraged to share personal narratives and experiences, fostering a mutual exchange that not only enriches their understanding of one another but also enhances critical communication skills for the younger participants. Through these interactive sessions, teens can cultivate a deeper sense of empathy and appreciation for the wisdom and experiences of the older generation. Such intergenerational programming is increasingly recognized for its potential to bridge gaps and dispel stereotypes that often exist between age groups.

The inaugural session of Sages & Seekers began in the Spring of 2024, reflecting a growing recognition of the importance of community-based programs that address social isolation among seniors and promote understanding among youth. With the emphasis on mental health and resilience, the Live Like Sam Foundation provides a valuable framework that enhances the overall objectives of the program.

Those interested in participating in Sages & Seekers must complete an application and attend an orientation meeting. Registration for this impactful program will close on September 19 at 3 p.m. Classes will convene weekly on Monday evenings from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Wasatch County Library, located at 465 E. 1200 South, Heber City. Sessions are scheduled to commence on September 22 and run through November 17.

By facilitating meaningful interactions between Sages and Seekers, this program aims not only to bolster communication skills among youth but also to foster a sense of community and belonging among participants. As societies become increasingly fragmented, initiatives like Sages & Seekers highlight the necessity of nurturing cross-generational relationships, ensuring that valuable knowledge and life experiences are shared and cherished.
