‘Latrobe’s Induction into Banana Hall of Fame for Popular Dessert’

Latrobe, the birthplace of the banana split, has now joined the National Banana Hall of Fame. Dole, a prominent figure in the banana business for 125 years, established the Hall to celebrate its milestone in the industry. Many people are familiar with the history of the banana split being invented at a drugstore in Latrobe.

For the past decade, Latrobe has been hosting The Great American Banana Split Celebration, featuring various events such as a 5K run, classic car show, and the Banana Split Princess Pageant. It has become a tradition for the city and a way to honor its historical connection to the beloved dessert.

In addition to Latrobe, a restaurant in New Orleans’ French Quarter and Dole’s mascot, Bobby Banana, have also been inducted into the Hall of Fame. This recognition highlights the significance of the banana in culinary history and the cultural impact it has had over the years.
