Lindex and WaterAid launch initiative to break taboos around menstruation

Ahead of Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May, Lindex and WaterAid are launching an initiative to increase awareness of menstrual health and raise funds for educational efforts. Each donation of 14 SEK can, for example, fund one lesson on menstrual health, and Lindex will match all contributions.

Despite menstruation affecting half of the world’s population, it is still surrounded by taboo and stigma. The silence has consequences, ranging from missed education to poor health. Through educational initiatives on menstrual health, targeting both girls and boys, Lindex and WaterAid are helping to strengthen the conditions for a more gender-equal world.

As part of the initiative, a campaign has been created for wider sharing. Those who wish to participate are encouraged to donate and share the campaign in their social channels to inspire others to do the same. The aim is to create a movement where small actions together lead to tangible change. 14 SEK, for example, can fund one lesson on menstrual health – and Lindex will match every contribution.

We know that many people want to contribute to change, but that simple ways to do so are sometimes missing. For us, it’s about driving meaningful change for women, and with this initiative we want to make it easy to get involved – where every small action together can have a big impact,’ says Linda Olsson, Director of Brand Experience at Lindex.

We live in a time when more issues related to health and the body are discussed openly, yet menstruation remains one of the most taboo topics globally. For millions of girls, this affects their ability to attend school, take care of their health, and participate fully in society.
