Murfreesboro Surgery and Clinics Commemorates Five Years of Service at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Vanderbilt
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital Marks Five Years of Pediatric Care in Murfreesboro
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, a premier institution for pediatric healthcare, celebrated the five-year anniversary of its Murfreesboro facility, a critical component of its mission to provide compassionate, specialty care to children in Tennessee and the surrounding regions. Originally established in Nashville two decades ago, the hospital focuses on delivering child-centric healthcare solutions that recognize the distinct medical needs of children compared to adults.
Since its inception, Monroe Carell has significantly expanded its reach, currently operating over 30 off-site and affiliated locations, including long-standing partnerships with several regional hospitals. This growth aims to render high-quality healthcare services more accessible for families, ensuring they can receive specialized medical attention closer to home.
The Murfreesboro facility, which opened its doors in December 2019, spans 37,000 square feet and is the largest pediatric off-campus establishment since the flagship hospital in Nashville. This significant site expansion has already made a substantial impact on the community, with nearly 194,000 patient visits recorded over its five-year operation. Services provided include surgeries, clinic visits, urgent care, gastrointestinal procedures, and imaging studies.
Dr. Meg Rush, president of Monroe Carell, reflected on the milestone, stating, “Our mission is to give hope and healing to children and their families in the best way possible. Our services in Murfreesboro have accomplished this.” The facility not only delivers quality medical care but also integrates community engagement through events and educational programs, further highlighting its role in fostering healthier communities.
Strategically designed with families in mind, the Murfreesboro facility features 22 multispecialty clinic rooms, an urgent care center, and advanced imaging technologies such as MRI and ultrasound. The design incorporates sensory play areas and color-coded zones to facilitate a welcoming and navigable environment, ensuring a positive experience for both patients and their families.
Dr. John W. Brock III, surgeon-in-chief emeritus, emphasized the institution’s commitment to expanding its services with the statement, “Murfreesboro is a dream realized and carried out by remarkable health care teams dedicated to children.” With over 15 pediatric subspecialties available, the facility addresses a broad spectrum of healthcare needs, ranging from gastroenterology to orthopaedics.
The surgical suite at the Murfreesboro location has performed nearly 12,000 surgeries, achieving an impressive patient satisfaction rating of 94%, among the highest within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center network. Dr. Jeffrey Upperman, current surgeon-in-chief, articulated the facility’s dedication to excellence: “Our specialized teams are dedicated to delivering compassionate, cutting-edge precision care that ensures the best outcomes for our young patients.”
As Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital continues its expansion and innovation in pediatric healthcare, its Murfreesboro facility stands as a testament to its ongoing commitment to enhancing children’s health services across Tennessee. The focus remains clear: to provide exceptional care that is easily accessible, ensuring that families receive the support they need in their local communities.
