Warburtons Expands Electric Fleet with Renault Trucks E-Tech D16s

Warburtons, a leading bakery brand, has further committed to sustainability by expanding its electric vehicle fleet with the purchase of four Renault Trucks E-Tech D16s. These electric trucks join Warburtons’ secondary fleet and will be utilized to deliver fresh bakery products directly to stores nationwide.

In addition to the E-Tech D16s, Warburtons has also acquired two Renault Trucks E-Tech Master vans with Luton bodies, marking the company’s first foray into electric vans. The vehicles were supplied by Renault Trucks dealer JDS Trucks & Vans.

The new electric trucks will be based at four of Warburtons’ bakeries located in Enfield, Glasgow (Bellshill), Bristol, and Bolton, while the E-Tech Masters will operate from Enfield and Bristol locations. All four of Warburtons’ latest electric trucks are equipped with 4×2 rigids and feature box bodies by Fosters Commercials and Dhollandia tail lifts.

Powered by a 265 kWh, 600 V E-Tech lithium-ion battery, the E-Tech D16s boast an Alternating Current synchronous motor with permanent-magnet technology, delivering maximum power of 185 kW, continuous power of 130 kW, and maximum torque of 425 Nm. The vehicles also come with a E-Tech reduction gearbox offering two forward speeds and one reverse.

Moreover, the E-Tech D16s are fitted with charge ports compatible with type 2 and CCS Combo 2, enabling mode 2, 3, or 4 charging ranging from 22 kW to 150 kW. Steven Gray, Head of Transport at Warburtons, emphasized the suitability of electric vehicles for the company’s secondary fleet, citing the low stem mileage of less than 100 miles per route and the utilization of 22 kW EV charging points for efficient charging during downtime.

With this expansion of its electric vehicle fleet, Warburtons continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable operations and reducing its carbon footprint in the delivery of bakery products.
