Aluminum Wall Panels Enhance School Campus Appearance
Tustin Legacy Magnet School in Tustin, California, is a unique 6-12th grade campus with a focus on technology, innovation, design, and entrepreneurship. The school attracts students who are interested in pursuing careers in these fields. Situated next to the historic U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Air Station blimp hangars, which were built in 1942, the school’s design team chose to use Dri-Design Painted Aluminum Panels for the cladding of the campus to reflect the design inspiration.
After considering various options, the design team at PJHM Architects opted for metal wall panels over cement fiber rainscreens. Principal Tom Kruse explained, “We chose Dri-Design based on previous experience, quality of product detailing, and weather protection.”
Best Contracting Services installed 49,000 square feet of Dri-Design Painted Aluminum Panels in various colors to enhance the look of the school’s archway and other areas. Dri-Design wall panels act as rainscreens, providing an additional layer of weather protection for the building.
Tyler Fowler, National Sales Director at Dri-Design, praised the use of extrusions and cut-to-fit applications on the corners and openings of the school. The campus seamlessly blends with the iconic blimp hangars, creating a natural and historical connection.
The Tustin Legacy Magnet School features a state-of-the-art -million facility with a 32-acre campus, including a two-story classroom building with 24 classrooms. The design focuses on student and staff needs while also encouraging collaboration with community and business leaders. The campus layout eliminates corridors and foyers to reduce wasted space and includes elevated pedestrian walkways for easy navigation between buildings. Outdoor amenities like an amphitheater, cafeteria, administration building, and sports fields provide students and staff with a strong connection to nature and outdoor activities.
