New Executive Director appointed at Cleveland Film Festival

The Cleveland International Film Festival has selected Hermione Malone as its new executive director, succeeding Marcie Goodman after her 23 years of service. Malone, a Detroit native, has a background in nonprofit management in New Orleans and most recently with the American Journalism Project in Washington, D.C.

Chris Blake, president of CIFF’s board of trustees, expressed confidence in Malone’s skills in strategic development, fundraising, program design, and collaboration to continue the festival’s success. Malone has previously held leadership positions at Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals in Northeast Ohio, as well as serving as president of the Junior League of Cleveland.

Excited to return to Cleveland, Malone stated that the Cleveland International Film Festival has always been a highlight of living in the city. She will begin her new role on June 10, working alongside Goodman until her retirement at the end of June. Goodman emphasized the importance of planning ahead for the festival’s 50th anniversary in 2026.

The Cleveland International Film Festival was established in 1977 by Jon Forman and has since grown significantly under various leadership over the years. The upcoming CIFF49 will be held from March 26 to April 5, 2025, at Playhouse Square.
